We loved the cute intro (one of the bloggers LOVES lipdub videos) and thought what everyone did really fit their characters, especially Meredith and Dwight. The plot involved Michael hiring his nephew who everyone in the office hated. He hired “Luke” because he wanted his family to love him. This is something that happens in real life, haha. We thought it was a good idea with little payoff. We would have liked to see Luke stay and annoy The Office workers longer. We think the idea of a young, sarcastic brat of an employee deserved at least two episodes. Pam and Jim’s pranks on Dwight were amusing, but not as inspired as they were in the past. We like that the episode ended with Michael being assigned to undergo counseling with Toby. We liked Creed's Twitter speech.
The Office was in a creative slump for season six and most of season five (the episode “Stress Relief” being the exception there). This episode was about season four quality. It wasn’t the quality of The Office’s glory days (seasons two and three), but it wasn’t as bad as last season either. We hope that Michael’s departure and the storylines there will give the writers inspiration to bring some new gags into The Office…and then milk them for all they are worth.
Episode Grade- B- (and that's generous)

This was a good episode. It gives me hope that this season will be better than last season. Thoughts:
ReplyDelete- When Gabe kissed Erin, I was all "NOOOOOOOO!!!!!" I love the Nard-Dog. I hope they don't leave him single forever like Joey from Friends. So tragic.
- I cackled when Michael spanked his nephew.
- They didn't mention Jim/Pam's baby at all - I wonder how she's doing.
I think The office deserve some praise for being to only one of the three comedies (that i watched) premiering last night to have a season premiere worthy opening. what I mean to say is, when we've been anticpaating the return of a show for 4 months, the premiere should make a splash, and the office's musical number was the only opener that delivered. 30 rock was ok, frankly as long as they have matt damon on I will not be making any complaints about this show! I was disappointed in my favorite hitcom- The Big Bang :( I absolutely love Sheldon and crew but I hate it when the writers of this show get stuck in the humor gutter of sex jokes- to be expected from the man who brought us two and a half men- but still The Big bang can do better! and opening the season with the robotic arm gag and a 'how many men has penny slept with bit' - no chuck lorre, no. I'm sure plenty of viewers liked it, but not this one....

Mrs. Potts- Maybe we were too hard on it. We just wish The Office was unforgetable, like it used to be. With this episode, there was nothing we are going to want to tell our families about or see again. It was mildy amusing. One of us HATES the Nard Dog. We miss Jim toying with him. We thought Erin was waaaaaay to good for him.
ReplyDeleteHatts- We agree with you about the Big Bang (and Two and a Half Men, for that matter). We think Community had the best Thursday night comedy premiere.
