Even if none of you care about The Dark Tower, and even if no one has read the excellent books by Stephen King, we will be covering the TV/movie adaptation extensively, so everyone can just deal with it. It rocks.
It rocks a little less now though. Ron Howard and Co. have offered Javier Bardem the lead role of Roland. First off, is the accent going to fit? Will none of the other characters have an accent? Also, this guy can be a little stiff. Roland has to be warm one moment and cold another. We can't picture Bardem tugging at our heart strings in scenes with Jake.
Whatever. We are still pulling for fan-favorite Viggo Mortensen. Or, as Ern's cousin suggested, Christian Bale.
As for The Office, Will Ferrell will be one of the bosses they bring in to phase Steve Carell out. He will have some episodes with Steve, and then one without him, and then he will leave. He should help the transition go smoothly, but one blogger has never thought he was funny. We will both still be watching though.
I haven't read those yet, though that series is one of the few books my dad has read in entirety. He has urged me to read them, but I'm not sure we have the same book tastes... So are they worth it?
ReplyDeleteHate to be sexist, but since you're a girl, I would tread with caution. This blogger has met a grand total of three girls (including herself) who love this series. Contrast this with about 100 guys we've met who love it.
ReplyDeleteIt's fantastic, but some people find it hard to get into, because the first books is really weird and you're not quite sure what's going on. Actually, it's all pretty weird. Does a mishmash of sci-fi, Westerns, romance, horror, religion/spirituality, fantasy, depression, and gritty violence sound good to you? That's the best we can do describing it.
It's DEFINITELY a personal taste thing. One of the reasons we decided to blog was that we like just about everything. Here at this blog, we have no genre bias. If it's good, we don't care what demographic it's aimed at, what the subject matter is, or what category it fits into. Let it all in!
The Dark Tower is, objectively, good, but we know dozens of people who would hate it just because it's so out there and sometimes slow, our grandmas/moms/most roommates included.
Ok, that's kind of what I figured. It's not sexism, it's just how it is... there are books written for guys and books written for girls. I definitely have more trouble with books written for guys, even when they're good and I enjoy them (the Bourne series). Hmm well maybe it'll be a summer reading project, when I have more time.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
