Girls- Season 2, episode 2

I Get Ideas- We love Girls and one of us is pretty liberal, but we thought Hannah's comments about Republicans were so rude. Poor Sandy! In the first place, one of us was a hard core Republican in high school with a literal cardboard cut out of George W. Bush riding in the passenger seat of our cars. Even then, that blogger didn't support the death penalty. Hannah just assumed that because Sandy was a Republican, he agreed with them about everything.

Sandy felt awkward, judged, and didn't want to get into it. We liked that Dunham wrote him as a nice, normal guy instead of the spawn of Satan though. Also, Lena said, "Hannah acts like she has a political issue with him, but what she actually has is an issue with him not liking what she does...she feels like she should receive universal praise." Fair enough.



We liked the conversation about race a lot more, especially what Glover threw in. Yeah, it scared us to see Lena Dunham so directly addressing her critics, but it was funny. Glee started listening to outside noise too much, and it killed that show. We read that a) that was Sandy's last episode on the show and b) much of their break up fight was improvised.

We think Sandy was written out too soon. Yeah, the normal guy isn't as entertaining as someone like Adam, but there had to be more to Sandy than that. A lot of people say that Lena Dunham shouldn't write minority characters, but having Donald improvise with her more could have taken care of that. He did a great job.

We HATE to comment on a woman's weight either way, but it's become clear to us that Lena Dunham is smaller than she was last year. She's not obese or unhealthy by any means, so it makes us sad to think that she might pull a Lea Michele and conform to Hollywood standards. She would just look weird. We like her little big-eyed face and "average" body.

Marnie is a horrible friend, but Hanna shouldn't have poo poo'd the hostess job. It's a great job to have in your 20s. Eventually, you want to move into something with benefits or something that you can do when your body gives out. By the time you're in your 40s, if you don't have a career, the food service industry won't be kind to your body. Note also that Marnie got her new job through one of her friends. You're definitely not getting it through some middle aged woman who doesn't have a clue what it's like to be 24.

We liked that this episode had more Jessa than this week. She's trying so hard to exude this perfect happiness and perfect life, which makes us think that she doesn't really believe it. If it's real, it's good, but not perfect. The scene with Adam in the apartment. SO funny. Wow, poor guy. He really messed up acting like that though. Are we the only ones who would love to hear the rest of his songs? We loved when Hanna's gay roommate called her a "sad, limp little glowworm."

Overall, there were a lot of laughs in this one, so we liked it.
