Walk of Punishment- This week, we got to see everyone and there was forward movement in nearly every plot. The scene of Tywin's council sitting down was so brilliant and hilarious. We didn't think a scene of people picking seats around Tywin could be so entertaining and revealing. Tyrion dragging the chair across the room and annoying everyone was classic. He definitely deserves to sit at the head of the table.
We're getting a little sick of the prostitutes on this show. It's gross and only a little funny. We like most of the female characters on this show, but more than half of them seem to be hooking. How much clearer can the show get with the message that Tyrion likes prostitutes? We freaking know. Hopefully that changes after the next couple of seasons....... Whores are the only present Tyrion knows how to give. They are like his version of a gift card.
How 'bout that ending? Jaime lost his right hand, his sword hand. Nobody likes a rich daddy's boy. Up until now, Jaime is like the George W Bush of this world. Here's what the actor playing Jaime had to say about the de-handing: "Jaime comes from a family where, if all else fails, you can always buy your way out of a situation. Then he meets a man where that doesn't work."
"It's a horrifying experience and the question is whether he can deal with that. He's defined as one of the greatest swordsmen of all time. He draws a lot of confidence from that. And if you have something that so clearly defines you- not only in the way you see yourself, but also the way the world sees you, and then you lose it....Now anyone can kill him, and it's not like he's the most popular guy."
We loved when Jaime defended Brienne so that nothing too bad happened to her in this episode. We're getting sick of the rape attempts (but at least most of them are unsuccessful on this show). We loved the way the show put a rock band singing a song from the fantasy world with their own spin on it. It made the ending jarring. If you haven't read the books, the ending would be a shock. That's not supposed to happen to main characters. And yet it does.
Just as last season Tyrion took center stage after Ned Stark's death, we feel confident in saying that this is Jaime's year. While this is an ensemble piece with many protagonists, there's always a standout. We'll miss Tyrion getting so much attention, but Jaime may surprise you by being just as fun to watch.
Episode grade: A-
I don't know where to post this but I was wxpecting your reaction to the Catching Fire teaser. Have a nice monday :D
ReplyDeleteLoved the costumes and I also loved that they didn't spoil the second half of the story. Parts of it were a little hammy. It looked like it's going to be the same, quality-wise, as the first one though.
DeleteI reblogged it on my tumblr for anyone who didn't see it: http://eyes-to-serve-hands-to-learn.tumblr.com/
Hi guys
ReplyDeleteDid you notice at about the 12 minute mark when the story changes from the council meeting to the scene where Brienne and Jaime are tied up on horses that Locke's (is that his name?) rag tag team are singing the same song from the end of the episode? I had to rewatch - I'm a bit slow on these sorts of things.
It will be interesting to see how differently he is treated by his father and sister. Also due to the weight of the swords, he actually needs the use of both hands to fight, those swords are very heavy - I noticed this in the sword fight before they were captured.
Gonna miss Pot Pie, the bread making kid.
Sonia
Yeah, we noticed! Fantastic.
DeleteWe heard someone say that cutting Jaime's hand off allows the show to "kill the character without killing him." He and his relationships will be so changed since he can no longer fight that it's like we get a different guy. Replacement Jaime. His right hand was his fighting hand anyway. Even if he tried with his left, he'd suck.
How is it that POT PIE gets to exit the story and probably live in peace? Lol. Love it.
