We thought the Harlem Shake was funny a few months ago, but now it's just sad. Glee opening with it two weeks ago was so behind the times and lame that we wanted to rip Finn's head off. Which isn't much of a change from how we usually feel about that guy... At least Finn is in college. Puck is just pathetic.
Marley's original song was the worst original song in the show's history, and that's saying a lot. It's always a joy to see Idina Menzel on the show. Her vocal chemistry with Rachel rivals any other pairing on Glee. We also liked seeing Katey Segal, if only briefly.
We loved Rachel's Don't Stop Believin' audition. That was a sweet choice. We hope the season ends with Rachel getting the role of Fanny in Funny Girl. But you know what would be even better? If she were the understudy. That could produce some drama.
We liked Rachel having a rivalry with Cassandra July, but we're glad that's over now. Cassandra was getting too unrealistically horrible. Teachers should encourage their students. Just not as cheesily as Will Schue.
We liked Jane Lynch's rendition of "Little Girls," but we are ok with her taking a break from Glee for a while. She's inspired the stupidest, most insulting plots lately.
The season has the worst music of all the seasons and the last thing it needed was a crappy Stevie Wonder week. Those songs just aren't good material for Glee, although we appreciated Kitty getting a solo.
While we thought Mercedes' qualms about taking her wrap off were stupid, we have to admire this show for consistently championing self-respect over selling out. This show encourages viewers to follow their dreams, but it never encourages kids to give up their integrity.
The best thing about the episodes in recent weeks was Burt discouraging Blaine from proposing. Burt just gets love and marriage. Carol is a lucky woman. Kurt's dad gives the best speeches, and we're glad that Blaine listened. That wedding has to happen in a few years though, or everyone's gonna feel cheated.
This show needs a good kick in the pants. It needs to lose several characters. Might we suggest losing unbearable Will, dull Artie, the inexplicably mean Tina, crazy Sue, useless Puck, and Unique? If the show is going to add new characters, it needs to not add repeats of ones we have already seen.
The show also needs to spend more time in New York. It hasn't been completely horrible in the last three weeks, but it's been pretty boring and unfunny. We need Lauren Zizes, Sugar Motta, Jesse St. James, Quinn Fabray, Shelby Corcoran, and Burt Hummel to be on more. Rachel needs to sing more. Santana needs to talk more. The show is just feeling dead and corny. If the music continues to be this bad, we won't stick with it. We haven't downloaded a song in weeks.
In other news, Kitty and Ryder were molested. Also, Kurt has out-of-nowhere OCD a la Hannah Horvath.

Yeah, it's been alright, but nothing earth shattering. I did really enjoy Rachel's duet with her Mom. Good song made even better by those amazing voices. BTW, have you all heard anything else about a Lea Michelle cd? I'd love to see that happen. I also agree that the show needs to loose some dead weight & showcase the really good characters more. I don't know about you, but I've been getting annoyed with Blaine lately. I just really don't like his character anymore. He seems kinda whiny/clingy & he's featured WAY too much in the songs. And a question: Where is Joe? Did they explain his absence & I just missed it?
ReplyDeleteNext to Me is too repetitive for us to love, but we almost love it. We like that artist's other songs more. Still haven't heard anything about a Lea cd, but Santana is supposed to be getting one soon.
DeleteThey didn't explain Joe's absence (they don't explain a LOT of those), but I think I read somewhere that he will be in the finale.
I still like Blaine's character, but I agree that he gets too many songs. His voice is mediocre at best.
