Grey's Anatomy- I Was Made for Lovin' You

The lawsuit plot line is driving us (okay, Ern) crazy. The hospital should not be sued. How is this even a case? We're not lawyers, but it seems weird to us. The attorneys defending the hospital should have a field day. So, that airline was so dangerous that Dr. Hunt should have been aware not to use them? Then why are they even in the air? Why not sue the government officials who let them stay in business if they are SO BAD that some random doctor should have known not to let people fly on them? Oh, but he should have done the research you say? Still. That's a comparatively low amount of fault, wouldn't you say? How much money is "failure to research an already regulated business" worth? Not much. It's not Dr. Hunt's job to make sure airplane's are safe enough for people to use. It's not his duty. Think of your boss (or yourself or any business owner you know): before he or she puts an employee on a plane, does he research the safety record of the airline?

The only way this plotline would work is if the show tells us that it is normal for most chief of surgeries to investigate airline safety. We think any reasonable guy in his position (which is the standard by which he will be measured) would trust that the FAA wouldn't be letting people fly on this airline unless it were safe. That if the airline was in business, it's not negligent to PUT PEOPLE ON IT. It's a heavily regulated industry with few crashes. In order to sue someone for not doing something, it had to be his job to do it. It wasn't. It was the FAA's and the airline's job to check the safety. Those hack plaintiff's attorneys said that the best people to sue would be the hospital's leaders? We can think of so many other parties who would be much better targets. The safety testers, manufacturers, the airline, the government.... Yeah, this is great for drama and Owen angst, but if the show were going to go here, it needed to create a tighter case.

AND THAT'S WHY ONE OF OUR FAVORITE TV COUPLES IS GETTING DIVORCED?

Sidenotes:

  • April....you're not nice.
  • Arizona, yes finally yes yes yes. Off the floor and back, laughing and being cool again. Woo hoo.
  • We hope Meredith doesn't miscarry. She's already miscarried on this show before. We want nice things to happen to her. The pregnancy was a pleasant surprise we should have seen coming.
  • Way to be self-destructive, Owen. Go back to therapy.
  • Bailey needs to die now.
  • The liver patient touched our hearts.
  • What happened to ass-grabbing guy?
  • Mr. Feeny helped Cristina's heart grow three sizes! And she wants Owen back!
  • We love Tina with the chairs, haha.

  1. Wow...That lawsuit really bugs you, huh? ;) I think April was pretty awful in the episode, but I still like her. Not really too concerned about Owen/Cristina. Never was one to carry to much about that ship. Loved that Meredith is pregnant again! Great that Arizona is back to her old self. Was getting really sick of mopey Arizona. Tina with the chairs: hilarious!

    1. I'm glad you like April. Since she's so unpopular, it's cool to have someone on the other side. We go back and forth. Cristina/Owen seems to be a love it or hate it ship.

    2. Yeah, I wouldn't say I hate Owen/Cristina. I just really don't care too much. There really haven't been a ton of relationships on this show that I've cared to much about. I of course like Derek/Meredith, but who doesn't? I also liked Mark/Lexie & Karev/Izzy

    3. I think part of the reason I like April is b/c the actress was on a show (Everwood) a few years back that I really liked. And her character on that show was really likeable :)

    4. I've never cared that much about Meredith and Derek, believe it or not! I think, for girls, in order to care about a relationship on TV 99% of the time, the girl has to be a little in love with the guy in the relationship, in addition to thinking the woman is worthy of him. If Edward Cullen and Jacob Whatever don't make your heart speed up, you're not going to like Twilight, plain and simple. I understand that Owen's look (he looks older and doesn't have the "pretty boy" look that at least half of the girl population loves/he's more "Daniel Craig" and less "Justin Timberlake") and angst are not going to make everyone want to marry him. But if he's your type, that season five slow burn into a relationship was brilliant and more than capable of getting women to care.

LOVED Izzie/Karev. :-( The way that ended still hurts. That didn't do justice to the characters and story at all. Never watched Everwood, and Leeard is always getting on me for that, haha.

    5. You should definetly watch Everwood! It was such a good show...One of the best on the WB

  2. I am also not too crazy about Owen/Cristina but the only couple I still care about in this show. And Owen is awesome. Too bad that its his turn to be the sad angry miserable guy now after Karev. I guess they are making this lawsuit happen only to introduce the divorce/reconciliation drama and make Owen's life miserable. And for April, in the beginning of this season, I thought she is less annoying and looking pretty. But I hate her again now. Bailey doesn't even act like a doctor anymore. Is she supposed to be the comic relief because she is obviously not very good at it.

Everything said, Cristina is the best character ever.

    1. Cristina is also our favorite.

April IS pretty. We want to like her. We actually like her with Jackson

  3. Ugh. They have butchered Bailey. She was such an awesome character in the earlier seasons... Kinda like a female Dr. Cox...

    1. They really did. That's the worst way the show has aged. Bailey became less of a bad ass and more of a Doctor Shonda Rhimes.

  4. I really hate April right now, and I really hate that the show has taken the the one religious character with any sense of morals (since Bailey obviously isn't that character anymore) and made her out to be totally bananas. I guess we know how Shonda feels about Christians. And morals.

    1. Yeah, the character has been completely mishandled. She should never have been religious in the first place. That came out of nowhere during her test. We just thought she was a virgin because the right guy never came along and then...all of the sudden...it's for Jesus.

I think the way Shonda feels about Christians and traditional sexual morality is exactly what April said: "Jesus made that rule for back when people were getting married at 13. No one was expected to wait until 30." I think that's a legitimate argument/could be right, even though I personally think the "Biblical worldview" teaches otherwise.

Shockingly, the only TV show that doesn't mock religious people or waiting until marriage nowadays is GLEE, which is created and run by a gay man. The kids prayed something from Isaiah last week. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, but Murphy wants to "show all perspectives." Now, that doesn't mean Glee is a good show. It entertains us, but it's so dumb most of the time that's it just best to hate-watch.
