Shameless- Season 3, episodes 1-2

Last year, there was all this hope that things would get better. Frank was out of the house most of the time, Lip and Fiona kept talking about GEDs, Fiona actually got one, and Jimmy moved in full time. But things are darker than ever this year. It's depressing us a little, but we know disfunction is the whole show. Also, it shocks us and makes us laugh still, so it is doing its job. We miss Karen though.

Poor Deb. She's going to be so messed up. We feel even sorrier for Fiona because of her summer job. There are other jobs that pay that much an hour that you can get with a GED! What happened to bartending and waitressing? JEEZ! That poop scene nearly made us ralph. We liked the way Frank got back to the states, but it was interesting how the kids' lives were so much better when he was gone. We saw this week that as soon as he came back, everything went to hell. Part of that is Jimmy's difficult situation. How on Earth can he solve it?

We like Frank though. He starts drama in the show. That way we can root for the kids more. If they were creating all their problems (like every character on Weeds), we would eventually get too frustrated with them to care. Plus, last year Frank banged Butterface to death, and we that was one of the most twisted things we've ever seen on TV, for which we were grateful. Frank's idea of child care and his call to Child Protective Services promise even more lows for Frank. We know a lot of people hate him and wish he would leave, but we think he serves a purpose. In small doses.

Fiona's "Oh HELL no" at the beginning of this week was the best one of those we've ever heard. We love that she was honest with Lip about where the money went. She could easily have said that Frank stole it. This episode stressed us out so much, because we wanted Fiona to succeed at the club and we knew there was a 99% chance that she would fail. And THEN Fiona risks Kevin's safety by defrauding the mob?! We're just glad she's out of the hole! Profit?! Dream on, Fiona.

The first half of this episode was a little boring. We laughed at Deb carrying around a pillow case and bars of soap. Little did we know how effective it would be. We hate Wilco too. Such a boring band. We wanted to smack Lip at the end. You don't have to be poor! You're sitting on a gold mine of a brain! You could make three figures a year in five years! UGHHHH. It looks like Lip has this covered, Fiona. He wants to be the victim. He wants to take over the family? Let him. Get out.

Fiona is so gorgeous. She's still the heart of Shameless and the best part of the show. We actually don't ship her with Jimmy as hard as we think we should, since the show gives them so much attention. It's just not that romantic. We know he's here to stay, but we think the show would improve with him gone. So far, this season seems all over the place and it would be nice if an overall plot arc besides "we need money" would emerge in the next couple of episodes. V and Kevin should not stay broken up. We love them. That's saying something, since we aren't that invested in half these characters at this point.
