Game of Thrones: Season 3, Episode 8

Second Sons- Game of Thrones is the only show we care about right now (if you haven't noticed). While there were a lot of good shows on TV this year, not a lot of those shows were having good seasons. Even The Vampire Diaries lost its mojo. Once Upon a Time didn't make logical sense by the rules of its own universe and really dragged. The chuckles were fewer in Parks and Rec. But Game of Thrones is better than ever. This week, we had the most awkward (yet oddly hilarious) episode of all time. Poor Tyrion. We feel the worst for him.

It was an uncomfortable wedding for both bride and groom Tyrion and Sansa, but Joffrey had to dance around and make it worse throughout. Cersei is at her most impatient and amusing, but she should really take a leaf out of Margaery's book and play the social game a little more, shouldn't she? We loved Sansa's wedding dress.

Tyrion getting drunk was perfect. He had to act drunker than he actually was when he accidentally threatened to cut Joffrey's peen off. (Joffrey deserved it because he tried to have Sansa stripped naked and carried to her wedding bed.) Tyrion told Sansa that he would not share her bed until she wanted him too. To which she basically replied, "Never, dude." Shae's happy about this.

Sandor Clegane, The Hound, is trying to get Arya back to Catelyn and Robb so that they will pay him upon delivery. We've always kind of liked The Hound. Sure, he's a villain and a murderer, but he did say, "F*** the King" regarding Joffrey which buys him a ton of goodwill.

We're not sure about the Gendry/Melisandre plotline they added. We're even less sure about Gendry's goatee, which seemed more goatee-like than ever. He doesn't need that.

One of the things we didn't like about this episode was that there were too many storylines at once where the men were acting like pigs. Too much of that at one time can make an episode gross. Dany hiring the mercenary army, The Second Sons, exposed her to quite a...charmer.

We like that one of the captains had sense, but the shot of Dany getting out of the bathtub and showing him her body just felt gratuitous after all the rape threats this episode had. Joffrey's was the worst, of course, because he's the worst.

In other news, Dragonglass/Obsidian kills the white walkers. That's good to know. Too bad Sam didn't take the dagger with him after he ran.

Episode grade: A-

We have a one-week hiatus, which is good, because we can't emotionally handle next episode yet.
