A Small Comment on Project Runway

Ok, we didn't follow this season at all and we only watched the final two episodes. But, based on what we saw of the clothes, we don't think the right person won. If anyone wants to vent or disagree with us who loves the show (and we think we know who that "anyone" is), go ahead. We're going to cover it next season, probably, but we hope Heidi and the crew get better taste before then.

  1. Haha, yes, I am that "anyone." Thanks for thinking of me. :P You are absolutely right, it was ridiculous that Gretchen won. That collection was awful. The only thing I liked was the styling, and that was only good because the judges spelled it out for her in the penultimate episode. She had some well-designed things throughout the season, but I would have picked someone else to win every time she won a challenge. Throughout the season, the judges were just trying to create drama by doing something unexpected, even if they were flat-out wrong. I disagreed with them A LOT this season. And there were only a few pieces from Gretchen's final collection that I liked; I LOVED Mondo's whole collection.

Mondo definitely should have won, and I think just about everyone on the intarwebs agrees. He was my favorite from the very beginning, and I was rooting for him throughout the season. And it was totally unfair of the judges to put him in second place just because his collection was mildly similar to winners of past seasons.

But at least he's not under contract the way that Gretchen will be. I think his career is going to go much farther even without all the prize money. And he's a far more likeable person.

Also interesting to note: Andy might have cheated without getting caught. You can read more about that here: http://freshlypicked.blogspot.com/2010/10/project-runway-scandal-possible-spoiler.html

A couple of other little notes that won't mean much to you since you didn't watch the whole season:
Michael C is a really nice guy and didn't deserve all the bad treatment that he got throughout the season, but I don't think he should have made it as far as he did.

And what the heck is Ivy's problem?? I think sometimes the editors edit a show to put a certain spin on someone's personality, but in this case, it has nothing to do with editing. Her actions were embarrassingly horrid.

Here are a couple of other blog posts about the show:

  2. I totally agree with Mrs Potts on this season. It was a monstrosity that Gretchen beat Mondo! Even the post-runway show commentators seemed to mostly agree that Mondo's collection was stronger. I loved how Heidi fought for him tooth and nail. My favorite backdoor burn of the night was when Jessica Simpson (who looks like a totally different person these days, btw. Weird) said to Gretchen, "I know that my sister is going to rock [your clothes] impeccably." Snap.

  3. We guess they just wanted to shake it up and do a surprise ending...That way everyone is talking about it, even us.

We are going to pick this show up full-time next season, because a lot of people seem to watch it, and it's one of the more tolerable reality shows. Probably in our top three.

  4. This whole season was a disappointment. The designers frankly weren't that great, with the exception of Mondo, and Gretchen as a winner was horrifying. The way the rest of the designers treated Michael C was embarrassing - Tim Gunn actually called them out on it, which I've never seen before. Ivy was by far the worst and together with Valerie and Gretchen it was like watching "Mean Girls". I think it's interesting that you're considering picking it up full time next season... I and others I know are thinking about dropping it altogether after this year!

  5. Well, we think that after the backlash, the show will work hard to be relevant again. Thus, it will at least be interesting next year. This is what happened with America's Next Top Model. People scorned it for offering a spread in 17 Magazine, so now it's offering one in Italian Vogue. When shows get bad, they either get hilarious or serious to get back on top.
