Bunheads- Season 1, episodes 11-12

Oh, this weird, plotless show. We love it bunches. It's starting to be more confident now that it's settled. The premiere of Bunheads was really cute and only a little nonsensical. In fact, it was probably the best possible episode for it to return with. There was emotion and some of the best dialogue we've seen from this show yet. Hubbell and Michelle's wedding video was not nearly as creepy as we would have guessed. In fact, it was super sweet.

Plus, it opened with SUCH a great dance number. We want to watch that multiple times. We were confused about one thing. Did Sasha blow off that great opportunity at The Joffrey? Or did she just come back earlier than she told her parents she would be back? Did she just spend the gap hiding or was it the whole summer? If you know, let us know. We liked the episode, but we don't want to watch the whole thing again. Just that dance number.

Onto this week. Truly is starting to get on our nerves, but if it leads to more of us seeing her hilarious sister, played by Liza Weil, we'll be happy. This show needs a Paris. We don't even mind if this show is Gilmore Girls 2.0 at this point. We're just glad there is something like it. We both miss Gilmore Girls so much (Leeard more than Ern, but still; they should totally bring it back and do a time jump). It was hilarious that Truly's sister is so the opposite of her in every way and that they hate each other.

We love how Michelle handled the Roman situation in the beginning. She didn't try to be all "cool" and let them stay and do things either. Much respect. Michelle's advise to Boo wasn't horrible; it was just worded badly. They say to be yourself, but this blogger is just like Boo: Can't fake anything. It helps to have a nice, agreeable show to ease people into you, and make them feel liked and comfortable. Take it from someone with no social mask. As long as you take that mask off in due time, it's a helpful thing to have. The mask comes from you. It's part of you.

Michelle should have given specific tips to appear like a good future daughter-in-law, not just say, "Try to be what they want you to be." Too confusing. It was so awkward to watch Boo almost ruin everything. Carl was perfect, as usual. We were a little annoyed when Boo mentioned in her rant that she had to lose a few pounds to make it into a good dance company, even though it's likely true. THEN Truly's sister suggested she, Michelle, and Truly "save themselves the calories." It was kind of a funny joke, but this is a channel aimed at young girls. It would be nice not to constantly remind them that they should be worrying about their weight.

The new kids seem awesome. Rather than being threatened, it would be cool to get to know people with so many talents and experiences and learn from them. How do they perceive the world after living in so many countries? Can they teach YOU Spanish? We'd get all over that. We love that Cozette is far from a stick. For all its jokes about weight, the show features several body types (including Sasha's). We're not surprised. Rory and Lorelai were always thin, but they always looked healthy too, and Sookie's character didn't revolve around her larger weight.

So, Amy SP may not have cast women of color in lead roles, but she's consistently forward-thinking in one aspect. This week was a Fanny-free episode, and we didn't miss her at all. It can go on pleasantly without her. Our biggest complaint is that we didn't get to see Marian!? UGH. Sasha's mom is a sweet one, eh? Michelle might be the nicest person in the world. Too nice. We would have tried to help Truly find a new place, but we would never have let her and her shop into our houses.

  1. I'm so glad you all reviewed this show! Now I just need a Switched @ Birth post ;) This has become one of my favorite shows. It may be because it's so similar to Gilmore Girls (in the look of the show, dialogue, etc) and I loved Gilmore Girls (prob in my top 2 shows of all time). I think they've started off this half of the season brilliantly. I'm liking Sasha better. She seems softer & less burly. I do wish we could have seen Michelle's blind date...

    1. What's the other show in the top 2? Sasha liking Michelle makes her likable.

Switched at Birth? Good show. Maybe some day we'll cover it. The few times we have though, the posts didn't get many views.

    2. The finale (or I think it's the finale) of Switched at Birth is going to have an all ASL episode which I think is pretty cool. (Those are the moments I've liked the most in Switched at Birth)

  2. My other top 2 is probably Smallville. It had a good run. I like when a show runs that long. You can really get invested in it. Pretty Little Liars is up there too. Oh, and one thing I wanted to ask you. Does the short, blonde ballerina (can't think of her name) remind you of a young Bernadette (from The Big Bang Theory)?

    1. Ginny? She reminds me of a young Ivy Lynn from Smash.

    2. Just what I was about to say. But I see Bernadette too, a little.
