Here is our list of shows one or both of us can watch hundreds of times:
-Scrubs (possibly Ern’s most re-watchable show. You forget just enough to have it feel fresh, and the individual scenes are enjoyable and funny. That’s one of the keys to a re-watchable show. It needs to have many good moments per episode, rather than a bunch of boring moments building tension to one big moment at the end.)

-Sex and the City (the speedy scenes and snappy writing keep this one from getting old)
-The Office
-Arrested Development
-Glee (with the musical performances that we replay enough times on our ipods anyway, plus the zingers and zany characters, this makes for a surprisingly re-watchable show)
-24 (this might be the biggest surprise for you of the list, since this show relies on a “what’s gonna happen?”-driven tension. But the show is so intense that you are scared for the characters even when you know what’s going to happen.)
-Breaking Bad (we love this show, but we often forget specific things that happen. That’s ok, because that makes it re-watchable.)
-Weeds

When you want to buy a DVD set of a show you’ve seen, what do you reach for?
I disagree with most of those shows simply because I don't watch most of them. Gilmore Girls reruns are like crack. I looove them. I do watch Bones reruns on TNT all the time, but no, I'd never buy a season.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite box set is any of the Will & Grace seasons, though anytime Harry Connick Jr comes on it makes me want to claw his eyes out. I have the first two seasons of Grey's (always a favorite).
And then there's my closet Charmed obsession.
AGREE on the movies, except Fight Club. I've just never seen it. Save your gasps of horror, I know I'm lame.
Disagree about Lost; it's the best television show of all time, imo, and I can watch all of the seasons (except the last) over and over again without it becoming old.

I can watch The Sopranos (except the last two seasons) and Deadwood anytime.
For comedy, Seinfeld for me is the end all be all.
Law and Order, especially the older ones with Michael Moriarty, are really great.
I'm a Trekkie, so any Star Trek series; my favorite is Deep Space Nine.
For movies, LoTR trilogy tops the list. The Godfather trilogy is a close second.
CG- We can see how Will and Grace would be re-watchable. We love Karen. And you need to see Fight Club, and you need to see it more than once. It just scared one of us the first time she saw it, but then you see the commentary on it.
ReplyDeleteJim- We can watch seasons 2, 3, and 4 of LOST again, maybe. And the season finale. But for how good of a show it is, it's surprising that we don't want to watch it over-and-over. It's never as good as the first time.
DEADWOOD is a great pick. Seinfeld is similar to South Park for us. We can re-watch our favorite episodes.
We can watch the first LOTR multiple times, but 2 and 3 don't hold up as much for us as it did in theatres. Part of that is the horrible dialogue in Return of the King. "Yeah, you and what army?" "THIS ARMY" Barf. Agree with Godfather.

I started going down the list of movies I've rated on Netflix to make a list of movies that I can watch over and over, but the list got too long. There are a LOT of movies I love enough to watch time and time again.
I'm surprised to see Sabrina the Teenage Witch on your list. That show was great when I was in elementary school, but when I watch reruns now, it seems REALLY juvenile.
Friends is a good one for that. The movies we listed are ones that one or both of us have seen more than 100 times. Also, Braveheart should be on that list. One of us has to have watched that at least 300 times...
ReplyDeleteOnly one of us agrees with Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and that is the same person who still watches Disney Channel cartoons. Oh, to be that young at heart...
She does NOT watch Disney Channel cartoons, thank you. One cartoon, maybe. Sabrina the Teenage Witch is on early in the morning on ABC Family, and it's great to watch while she's getting ready for class.
