Our Ideal American Idol Top 12

Before America ruins it and they announce the top 12 tonight, we will list the 12 we would want to see.

1. Casey Abrams
2. Naima Adedapo
3. Lauren Alaina
4. Jovany Barreto
5. Kendra Chantelle
6. James Durbin
7. Brett Loewenstern (Ern caved. He's fun.)
8. Jacob Lusk
9. Robbie Rosen
10. Pia Toscano
11. Lauren Turner
12. Rachel Zevita

Feel free to argue with us in the comments. Leeard wanted to include Paul McDonald on this list, but Ern would not let her, because he just sounds like a crack-headed James Blunt. Leeard does not disagree with that, but still thinks he's amazing. We both harbour a dislike for Thia Megia.

After the top 12 is announced, we will be covering American Idol episodes in more detail, because that show is inherently funny and cries out for commentary.

  1. My wife and I always argue over this show. She's in love with the country boy (go figure), but I feel he is far too limited in his repertoire to have any real long term value. Of course, from a purely eye candy point of view, I suppose the girls love him.

I couldn't stand Karen "Viva La Raza" Rodriguez. She's a decent enough singer, and I'm all for being proud of her heritage, but please...

Haley was also a weak pick. This pretty much follows my view that the guys are much stronger than the girls this season notwithstanding Pia's amazing performance.

Your Top 12 was interesting. I only will disagree vehemently with Jovany; other than eye candy what did you hear that made you like him? Vocally, imo, one of the weakest of the 24.

All in all, though, this is shaping up to be one of the best Idols in years.

  2. Jovany had nice high notes. Plus, he held notes out. There are far too many runs on the show. Too much vocalizing. Can the people just sing a song without squiggling every note they hold?

Scotty also has a limited range. Can he sing more than three notes? And SO agree about Karen. Maybe Idol thinks it needs a Hispanic winner.

We think this season has been great so far too.

  3. What did you guys think of the top 13 results? I agree with Jim^ that this is shaping up to be a pretty great season. Last season was an act of patient endurance until Crystal Bowersox came onstage!

My top 5 are Casey, Paul (sorry, Ern, but he's amazing), Naima, Stefano, and Lauren.

  4. We're working on a top 13 post with detailed opinions. We are on spring break right now/out of town, so the blog has been suffering. But we'll get with it soon.
