This is like the quality equivalent of a soap opera, only
it’s for nerds rather than old ladies. We feel like we aren’t allowed to say that, due to the number of cool people
who love this show passionately. Let’s just say that we expected a lot more and
are still waiting for it to get good enough for us to care.
Does the show get better or change at all? When have we watched
enough to decide it’s not for us? We want to give it a fair shot. What do you think?
We want to know when you’d say, “Well, if you don’t like it by now, you’ll never
like it.” Don’t hate us!!!!!
We did really like The Empty Child and the episode after it though.
Have you seen Human Nature, Family of Blood or Blink yet? Those are three of my favorites, especially Blink. Midnight in the next season is also one my favorite.
ReplyDeleteNo, not yet. Those are all in 3.
DeleteDoes anyone just want to make us a list of the ones we have to/should watch?
I'm sure it's different for all Doctor Who fans, but here are my favorite episodes from season 3-6 (*top six):
DeleteSeason 3: 42, *Human Nature, *Family of Blood, *Blink
Season 4: The Doctor's Daughter, Silence in the Library, Forest of the Dead, *Midnight, Left, Stolen Earth, Journey's End
Season 5: Eleventh Hour, Vincent & the Doctor, The Pandorica Opens, The Big Bang
Season 6: The Impossible Astronaut, Day of the Moon, *The Doctor's Wife, A Good Man Goes to War, Let's Kill Hitler, *The Girl Who Waited, The Wedding of River Song
There are definitely some episodes I don't particularly like, so maybe I'm not a true "Whovian," but there are some stellar episodes in the series.
Gracias. We shall watch these.
DeleteI'd say if you're a couple seasons in you've probably seen enough to have a fair impression of the series. You've already seen two doctors, and while a lot of different stuff goes on many episodes are still the doctor stumbles into a mystery/adventure/invasion/whatever and spends half the episode running from the threat before resolving it. I was hooked already by this point, which was probably good as now Rose is gone (still my favourite companion) and while the next two grew on me over time it took a while before I appreciated them, but I didn't really enjoy the companions until the introduction of Amy Pond.
DeleteI second watching most of the episodes recommended by Karrie, especially Blink, and the Doctor's Wife written by Neil Gaiman. River Song is a bit polarising, some people love her, some don't. If you get that far you can adjust the number of episodes you watch accordingly. I'd probably also add watching the last 20 minutes of The End of Time part 2 in between seasons 4 and 5 to see off David Tennant (from about the 48min mark onwards).
Thanks, will do. We wanted to get to Amy Pond, but it must take a while for her to show up.
DeleteYeah, season 5 I believe Amy shows up, and also the seasons become mory story arc based. You've probably got enough already to watch, and again Karrie has listed most of the essentials, but there's also a two parter follow up to Blink that may be worth adding to the list: The Time of Angels, and Flesh and Stone, and if you're in the mood for any christmas specials A Christmas Carol was decent.
DeleteWe've heard the Christmas specials are some of the best.
DeleteThere's a lot of brilliant episodes in season 4 (and you get Donna as the most perfect companion ever). Apart from those Carrie mentioned, I really like "Planet of the Ood."
ReplyDeleteI think with Doctor Who, you have to kind of turn off logic and just enjoy it for what it is. Personally, I think the characters rather than the plots are often what draws people to Doctor Who.
F.ex. I like Martha and Donna better than Rose (although I love Rose as well) therefore I like the seasons with them better.
Someone has recently convinced us to take up the show again. She even invites us over for marathons.
DeleteWe will admit that Donna is pretty great. Hilarious. We want to get to the Ponds.
You're right, the characters are way better than the plots.
