Awkward- Season 3, Episodes 1-2

Confession: It's a little harder to like this show now that we don't like Ashley Rickards as much. Call us judgmental, but we think it's crazy for a 20-year-old to have a boob job. Who even knows if she's fully grown yet? We sympathize with people who don't like an important body part (Ern will confess that it's her arms), but wait until you have and breastfeed your babies before you get the balloons!

Ashley finished high school at 15 and is involved in important charity work, which is cool, but we keep hearing that she doesn't get along with the rest of the cast. She went blonde over the break, which is fine. We need a change sometimes too. But plumping her lips? Girl, if you're already going in for beauty procedures before you can legally drink, what are you going to have done to yourself by the time you're 40. Joan Rivers, do you need an heir?

It's ridiculous because Ashley is drop-dead gorgeous and a member of Mensa. Why ruin a good thing? The show explained Jenna's enhanced bust early on by having Jenna get a padded bra from Victoria's Secret. Uh...nice save. The episode started out with Jenna feeling guilty for disappearing on her friends in order to spend more time with Matty.

Shall we say again that it was crazy not to go to Europe? COME ON. Trips like that are huge, sometimes once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. The best romantic relationship are the ones where the partners still have their own lives and friends. We were happy when it turned out that Jenna's friends and ex didn't sit around and wait for her to notice them again.

Shocker! Jake and Tamara are together. We loved creative writing when we took it, and creative writing teachers are usually douchebags. It comes with the territory, but it's worth it. It helps for the teachers to be comfortable with being jerks, because that makes them more honest.

Pregnancy scares? Jenna's mom was shockingly, hilariously cool about it. Actually, that's how our moms would react because a) we're not teenagers and b) they want grandchildren a lot. Ern has postponed the pressure by getting puppies. Jenna's "walking backwards" way of avoiding sex was adorable and possibly something we'll use one day. We loved her referring to her sexuality as her "funhouse" too.

After we found out that no one is having a baby, the show killed off Ricky. Let's all pretend to cry. His self-portrait was the best thing he ever produced. Ashley Rickards said that Jenna will be going to some "dark places" this year. We're ready to see it, but hopefully this show doesn't take the Girls route and lose the humor as it delves into that material.

  1. I agree- Ashley Rickards is not likeable, especially after watching her interviews for the season 2 aftershow! She definately goes overboard with the makeup (especially the lip liner around the lips).
The show should make Sadie the main character- I love her!

    1. We WANT to like Ashley Rickards. Her wikipedia page helps us. Plus, her home town is very near ours. We think she got her lips plumped, but they went down in time for this season.

      Sadie is the best.
