- Tiffany Rios (almost killed it by being unlikeable and too holler-y)

- Ashley Sullivan, the crazy Broadway-pop girl. We didn’t get to see her Hollywood week performance, but it must have been good, because she is still in. We got to see her break down crying when she made it. That girl is emotionally unstable, insane, and enthusiastic. We love it.
- Rachel Zevita. We like her more for her audition that her Hollywood week performance though.
Kind of like, but not totally sure:
--> Scotty McCreery. We love his deep country tone, but is that the only song he can sing? We've seen that show before and we need a new one. We don't think he will get too far.
--> Brett Loewenstern with the crazy red hair and the crazy good voice. (Leeard is sure. She loves him)
--> James Durbin
--> Chris Medina (even though he sucked in his Hollywood first round. They pretty much let him in because of his story)
--> Jaycee Badeiux
--> Robbie Rosen

Steve Beghun the accountant. He could do better than that! That was just a poor song choice and nerves.
Nick Fink The Boyfriend (pictured) was so pathetic, trying to sing again. You could tell his girlfriend was embarrassed as she walked out. We know she’s going to dump that guy. That was probably the night's funniest moment though.
SO glad auditions are over and we get to see all the good people/get on with the show. We think, overall, the judges made some great choices this round. There was no choice we were really upset over. These guys know the goods when they see it.
My Idol conspiracy theories are abounding. Apparently, there was something like 350 golden ticket holders, and 150 that got through, but we only saw about 10 of them sing since the producers packed the hour with redundant backstories and irritating Victoria Huggins and her 11 suitcases. WTH, Idol??
ReplyDeleteI'm also a little shocked and appalled that one of my early favs Sarah Sellers (Glasses McGee from New Orleans) was cut with nary an explanation.
I agree with most of your picks, though. I think Rob Bolin is good, but not really for Idol. Casey Abrams may just be my favorite of the show so far, and I'm surprised that Rachel Zevita didn't come across as slightly nuts (in a good way). Ern, I'm with you on Brett Loewenstern. I think his high-pitched talking voice freaks me out. Also, Chris Medina has a great backstory, but is lacking in the pipes department. Sad.
My problem with Paris Tassin is that the girl doesn't have her own voice. Her audition piece was a freaky sound-a-like to Carrie Underwood, and her Titanic song in Hollywood followed Celine's stylings and phrasing TO A TEE. Mark my words, if she makes it through, she's going to be the one they constantly harp on to "make it her own".
Okay, rant over. How uncomfortable was Nick Fink's desperation?? Girlfriend needs to pay attention to those red flags!
A lot of the people who got through we haven't even heard or seen yet. Hopefully they are good. Apparently, Idol thinks it's more important to follow up on sob stories.
ReplyDeleteWe think that all it will take to fix Paris is a comment like that (Make it Your Own). That seems like something that can be remedied/she just hasn't realized yet. In these early rounds, it's more important to sound like you can sing the song on key. A different interpretation might be looked on as funky in this stage. But you're right, if she makes it through, she will have to fix it.
Nick Fink was sooooo awkward. We kind of liked it though. HILARIOUS
