Meh

Now that we have seen the first two episodes of The Nine Lives of Chloe King, we’re going to weigh in on it. It’s not bad. One of us thinks it's one of the best things on that channel. It’s summertime, so there is a relative TV drought. However, this is not as good as Buffy, Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries, or other teen shows up this alley. Heck, it's not even as good as Make It or Break It.

Frankly, we’ve got other stuff to watch. We’re sure you’ve noticed that our schedules are full. We aren’t hurting for things to watch. In fact, we doubt that we will ever be caught up on things we want to watch. Forget TV, you should see the size of our Netflix queues. We are going to be picky with new shows, because we just can’t be adding substandard stuff to our schedules.

The good things about the show: The main girl, Chloe, is cute and likeable. There are a few cute guys. It’s not boring. Chloe’s mom is cool. One of Chloe’s best friends is funny. There is some mystery already. It’s adequate entertainment for teens. It’s not going to become your next obsession, even if you are a teenager, but it’s something teens will probably watch if it’s on.

The bad things about the show: Chloe is a little stupid and irrational. Her emotions cause her to feel guilty for things that aren’t her fault and put herself in danger. Also, they keep her from going to the people with answers, getting a plan, and facing up to her new powers. We have enough female heroines like this. Also, Leeard thinks her laugh is annoying. The characters don’t act like real people. Chloe’s friends don’t react to her plight like teenagers would. The show failed to suck us in. So what if Chloe is special and that means someone wants to kill her? When WE sometimes want to kill her, that cuts down the tension significantly. Add that to the fact that you have to kill her nine times and she's pretty tough. That's not a risk. It’s not really original or funny either. And it's kind of dumb.

Bottom Line: It’s not terrible. It’s just not good enough for us to spend the time on.

Episode one grade: B-
Episode two grade: C-
Overall grade: C

Also, how photoshopped is that promo photo they put out? It doesn't even look like that girl.

  1. Yeah...I'm not sure I'll make room for The Nine Lives of Chloe King. Having eight lives makes it less interesting...They kill her, she comes back alive....this show can have several seasons (in an annoying way...maybe not idk) I'll continue watching the show though since I won't have anything to replace the time slot soon. (I get the east feed for White Collar so it starts at 7pm (PST)for me :)) At least it is somewhat watchable (other then the annoying humor and somewhat bad acting the show has) I will also keep watching Switched at Birth. (since it's actually pretty good)

What did you guys think about Falling Skies? A lot of viewers were negative about the show but I found it to be enjoyable. (The writing is good, the acting could use a little more work, maybe a little more action..but overall it was good..) Sundays won't have anything for a while (Game of Thrones and The Killing just finished. Breaking Bad is still about a month away.) Plus, if Falling Skies becomes/stays popular (and the ratings continue to improve) it would become a good thing for Sci-Fi fans (since anything that becomes popular gets milked to death)

  2. Leeard loves Switched at Birth. This annoys Ern, but Ern will have to accept it.

We are reserving judgment on Falling Skies until we've seen two episodes. We've noticed that in the past after we've reviewed just a pilot, we change our minds soon and want to take back the grade. We just can't tell after one episode.

For one thing, the pilot is made for TV execs with the hope of getting picked up. It's not a true indication of what the show will really be like.

So, we will let you know what we thought of Falling Skies on Monday after we've seen two :)

As for Sundays, we've been watching The Glee Project. True Blood starts this Sunday, and we hope season for is a lot better than crummy season three.

  3. Yeah, that's true. Although, I think most pilots are just boring then bad writing. (If it's just bad writing from the beginning, it's not going to get any better...maybe at least become an okay show to watch)

I'm actually liking The Glee Project. (It also helps that almost everyone is likable.) I usually don't bother with reality series, though...

  4. We COMPLETELY disagree with your assessment of The Glee Project, or at least one of us does. We like maybe one or two of the people, but everyone else annoys the bejeezus out of us.

  5. Aaaaand one of us thinks The Glee Project has lots of good people on it. One of us only hates like one of them.

  6. Yeah. They do sometimes come off as annoying but when they aren't, they are pretty likeable. (other then Lindsay and I think sometimes Emily but she's likeable at the same time) I think I mostly like Damian and Matheus. I also liked Ellis (but not her cry baby side)

  7. I'm not sure if I'll be watching Nine Lives every week because I think you need to like the lead character to like a show and well, Chloe kinda annoys me. Plus the superpowers are lame. I mean cats? seriously? And we already sort of know what's gonna happen in this show- the creepy bad guy is gonna keep stalking her and try to kill her, he'll kill her a few times and then he'll die when maybe just 1 life is left. Also, the whole nine lives thing feels like it's a video game...lol. And the acting isn't great either. Still maybe I'll watch a few more episodes to see if it gets any better. I think Switched At Birth is wayyy better and I really like it :)

  8. Cats are lame. Worst superpowers ever. We're glad someone is watching Switched At Birth, because chances are one of us is going to write about it sometimes.

One of us liked Ellis. The other one of us likes the fat girl, but feels bad calling her "the fat girl." But we forget her name, so what can we do? One of us also thinks they need to ditch the dwarf guy, who looks and sounds like Artie. The last thing we need is another Artie.
