When this episode came on, our first thought was, “Good, a Barney-focused ep,” because we can’t take mundane Lily/Marshall drama after last week. Barney was cleaning out his childhood home with his friends, because his mother was moving. He and his brother (love that brother - Wayne Brady!) realized that their mother lied to them a lot to save their feelings (and hers). Barney’s brother found out his father’s name, and the group went out to meet him. The reunion was a good one, except for an emotionally fragile, yet hilarious Barney pretending that his brother’s black father was his father too. This episode had an especially sweet ending, for a Barney storyline. Why was this episode not the premiere?
Also, Ern is with Lily on the Santa Claus debate. Don’t lie to your kids. The Santa Claus myth isn’t THAT fun. It actually negatively affected someone Ern knows, and not just in that this person was upset when she found out Santa wasn’t real. Worse. Also, kids should learn to be grateful to the people who gave them the presents. Tell them the truth; that Saint Nick is dead. Leeard is with Marshall though, because she likes Santa.
