Facebook Cartoons Craze

It seems that many people are changing their Facebook profile pictures to cartoons they love, whether they are from movies (like Disney movies) or from TV.

Ern picked Hey Arnold (pictured), because Ern can still watch and enjoy that, to this day. Leeard refuses to play any Facebook games that are not Bejeweled Blitz (Ern and Leeard have a fierce-ish Bejeweled competition going, usually). Ern's sister picked Ahh! Real Monsters. We've seen some Disney princesses, Doug, Dragonball Z, and Rugrats.

We have not confirmed why people are doing this. It's either to promote awareness regarding child abuse or to celebrate your favorite childhood shows.

We wonder how long we are supposed to keep the pictures up. We wonder a lot of things about this new trend. We like the celebrities thing better, but this is cute too.

If you are reading and changed your picture, let us know what you picked.

  1. It's to raise awareness for child abuse. Honestly, I don't see what good it will do but it took thirty seconds and it's kinda fun to relive all of those memories. One of my facebook friends wrote this melodramatic status about how it's stupid and won't help any abused children. They've been having an ongoing heated argument with another friend of mine. I think it's harmless and not nearly as annoying as the "copy and paste this status if you have a mother/father/brother/sister....blahdy blah blah".

Anyway, my profile picture is Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus. BEST cartoon ever.

James' is Thundercats. I watched that cartoon with him once about six months ago and thought it was the most boring, depressing thing I'd ever seen.

  2. Oh and by the way, I just finished the first season of Glee. Not too shabby. Still not in my top 5 favorite shows, but entertaining enough.

I also just checked out your "Finished/Cancelled Shows" page - I can't believe you only gave Flight of the Conchords a B!! That is A+ material, imho. And only a B+ for Friends, while you gave Frasier an A+?? Oh well, we are all entitled to our opinions.

  3. We used to play the Magic School bus learning games on our computers. Agree about Thundercats. We don't get that.

We're glad you can tolerate Glee, since we talk about it a lot here.

Flight of the Conchords: What was great about it was A+ material. Whenever it hit the right note, it was pure gold. But some songs and episodes fell flat, and it's not everyone's sense of humor, thus, a B.

Friends fumbled its last four seasons by being soapy and not as funny as it used to be. Frasier was funny most of the way through, and it was witty. Friends had poop/dirty jokes. Frasier had references and irony.

But a B+/B is a great grade. We haven't finished the page yet, but we are going to be handing out many Ds and Fs.

  4. I agree - I don't see how changing the profile pix will raise awareness to child abuse. Its being a slacktivist (new word for me - but it fits - willing to change pix or give money, etc., but but not really get involved). But I did it too - and i rarely do these things either - to the smurfs!

Where's the office update? It was a better one too - for how this season has been going.

  5. Slacktivist, lol. We agree with you about the slackitude of "spreading awareness" through picks. (But we agree with Mrs. Potts that it can't hurt.)

But we think giving money is good to do. You can't tell where a person's heart lies by looking at where the majority of their funds goes. Sometimes when lay people volunteer time, there isn't that much to do, because you really need trained and skilled people helping out and dedicating their whole lives to stuff like that. Some people have to just get involved in business. That keeps the work/economy going. Everyone has a calling. Donating money helps too.

And we're being lax with recaps lately because we are in the midst of finals. We will never be busier than right now, and the blog will never be lamer.

If it's any consolation, we agree with you that this week's episode was decent. How does an episode grade of B suit you?

  6. That's ok. More important to keep your grades up than the blog. The end will be in sight shortly!

Yes a B would be an acceptable grade. Hopefully they continue to be worthwhile going forward!
