Scandal, Season 2, episode 10, and Grey's Anatomy, Season 9, episode 10

Scandal: One for the Dog- Hot President is awake!! We knew the way things were going, with Sally threatening Mellie that the episode would end with Grant opening his eyes. He's going to be so angry when he finds out what his wife and aides did. This show is like The West Wing, only everyone's a liar and there's more sex. Grant should fire all these people. Even Olivia is just the worst person. We love it.

It's getting to where we've seen so many people tortured in entertainment that it doesn't even bother us anymore. How awful is that? We remember squirming watching 24 a decade ago, and now we just keep doing our hair and watching Huck get beaten and waterboarded out of the corner of our eyes. It wasn't a tame torture for TV either. It was pretty bad. The whole thing made us like David more though.

Goodbye Edison! We never liked you much anyway. James finally meets his baby, and she is precious.  Some might say that a black girl with two white, gay parents would have a hard time. We think that by the time a girl like that would turn ten in this country (2023), there won't be a much of a problem. Things are changing quickly. People are becoming more accepting. That's not an argument anymore. Maybe it was in the last generation, but our generation doesn't put up with judgment over that.

Sally Langston praying obnoxiously on national television is probably going to hurt the fundies who want a theocracy. We just hope it doesn't paint normal people of faith with the same brush in the minds of viewers, even subconsciously. We can't wait to see Olivia and the gang eventually take down Hollis for trying to kill Fitz and generally ruining everyone's lives. Hey, for the next term, can Grant pick a new VP? And have it be a hot guy?

Episode grade: A-

Grey's Anatomy: Things We Said Today- Well, Dr. Bailey's cold feet led to nothing and she is now married to...oh man, we can't even remember that guy's name. He's such a Shonda Fantasy Stand-In. He has no faults, and therefore, no personality. We're glad Adele died. It was time to put that poor character out of her misery. We couldn't forget that Richard cheated on her for years long enough to cry for him at the end though.

What a stupid way for Owen to come to the conclusion that he and Cristina should get a divorce. Because a motorcycle gang dude said it would trap him? Why does he go out and buy a Harley now and go all the way with it? Poor Cristina seemed to want to give it another shot. Is it fair to her? Did she totally buy the argument, or will there be hard feelings next week? We guess the kiss cemented that they will still have some sort of romantic sexual relationship.

In the same episode that celebrated marriage, we had two people deciding marriage is "a box" that ruins their mostly sex-based relationship. We guess the show is trying to say that marriage doesn't work for every relationship. We guess it's up to individual couples to decide, but we have to say, we're fans of marriage. We like to think that they will revisit the idea when they are older, are past the point of having biological children, and when they are getting married for the right reasons (i.e. not because Cristina has PTSD and is scared of being alone).

Jo cries to get what she wants? Gross. We liked her and Karev making up and getting drunk though. Not so much the breaking into the hotel room...At least their awkward feud is over. Jo, we want to like you, but you need to stop breaking the law and trying to manipulate people. Karev, you should know better that to go along with this middle-school stuff. If they get into a relationship, realism would require for them to have so many issues because of their childhoods. It's already hard to believe they are doctors. We didn't see Jackson and Stephanie coming. April is going to be so sad.

In happier news, we liked the Sons of Anarchy-type gang and the resolution there. We also liked Arizona and Callie making out like teenagers and re-committing to each other. It's really time for Arizona to suck it up for good though. We're like Callie: So sick of hearing about this leg! Overall, there was lots of silliness, focus on two couples we don't much care for (Adele/Richard, Bailey/Perfect Guy), and dull spots. The red dresses (especially Meredith's) were to die for though.

Episode grade: B-

  1. Thought these were both stellar episodes. I like how Mellie was being so sneaky. I know she's not particularly likeable, but she's becoming one of my fav characters on this show. I'm also so glad the truth came out about Huck. That water boarding scene was a little brutal. Guess I just haven't seen many torture scenes. Not sure how I feel about Edison going. I kinda liked that he was sorta a "replacement" for Fitz, but I now realize there probably will never really be a replacement for Fitz.

Grey's was also good. I think they are doing pretty good with the interns this season. I find myself caring about them. Yeah, it was time for Adele to go. That scene with her & Richard dancing did tug on my heartstrings a little. But I don't think the show will suffer at all without her. I am glad that she didn't die in surgery though. That would have caused a lot of unecessary drama! Of course, most of the drama on this show is unecessary =)

    1. Yeah, Mellie is entertaining. It's good that you haven't seen many torture scenes. I don't think we should be desensitized like that. Still, it's good that they showed how bad waterboarding really is. Some people don't think it's torture.

Agree that it was best for Adele to die after surgery.
