Chase Pilot review- zzzzzzzzzz

We didn’t HATE this show, and we can see how some people might have fun watching it, but we certainly won’t be rushing back to our TV sets for it next week. In fact, unless we start hearing some significant buzz saying that it has improved or completely changed (like Cougar Town did), we may never watch an episode of Chase again.

There is just nothing special enough about this show to make us actually want to watch it. We would describe this one as brainless and heartless. In fact, this blogger might go as far as, “Should have stuck with studying constitutional law instead.”

Chase is a by-the-numbers cop procedural. The team of Federal Marshalls chase fugitives across state lines. In the pilot, a shady con man was killing people and robbing them. He was actually creepy enough to make the whole episode watchable. The main character is as bland as they get, and she has daddy issues that come from some “mysterious,” yet to be revealed backstory. Are you surprised that a female law enforcement officer on TV has daddy issues? Neither were we. We think we are going to be ok never knowing what they are.

If you are looking for a cop show, try Southland, not this.

Episode grade- F

You can watch the pilot for free here (at least for the time being): http://www.nbc.com/chase/video/pilot/1250149/

  1. I tend to think that the main problems with this one were that it was muddled in cliches and that there was zero character development for the supposed protagonists. I don't think these are insurmountable issues, but the pilot was constantly moving between almost interesting (Mason's scenes) and almost laughable (another green rookie being educated by the "best"? Really?). I'm willing to give it a few weeks to find its footing (largely because of a crush on Cole Hauser dating back to "School Ties"), but it's not exactly appointment viewing.

  2. If you give it a few more weeks, will you let us know if it gets better/worthy? We are trying to weed out the lesser new shows, because law school is starting to pick up and Leeard just got into her choice of grad school. There is only time for the best of the best here.

Which is why it disturbs us that many of our readers seem to be watching Hellcats....

  3. I will report back if it proves itself, although given Jerry Bruckheimer's attachment to the project, I'm not especially optimistic. I have a hard time weeding out TV shows, so I applaud your noble efforts.
